Sony’s third State of Play of 2024 was held yesterday on 30 May 2024. The event aired last night at 11 pm UK time with global viewers tuning in to hear the major game announcements and surprises. It was a short but sweet virtual extravaganza for die-hard PlayStation fans, lasting just half an hour.
From the Monster Hunter Wilds‘ announcement for PS5 release in 2025 to Silent Hill 2 launching on PS5 later this year, the State of Play 2024 was filled with excitement and a lot of gaming releases to look forward to. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights.
In partnership with Jetpack Interactive, Sony announced that the highly anticipated God of War Ragnarök will be launched on PC on 19 September 2024. This long-awaited sequel promises another epic journey with Kratos and Atreus. Until Dawn returns revamped and enhanced for PS5 and PC, with a new trailer being revealed. The horror classic takes eight friends on a chilling adventure, unravelling a year-old mystery in an isolated mountain lodge.
The May PlayStation State of Play 2024 also gave us the first look at Concord a 5v5 character-driven, first-person multiplayer shooter. The PS5 and PC game saw its first gameplay trailer unveiled. Later this year gamers can test out the proposed beta version, and then the game will be globally available on 23 August 2024.
Since its announcement in 2022, the remake of this classic survival game has been much awaited by fans around the world. Alongside the release of a whopping 13-minute gameplay movie and a new trailer, Sony revealed that the launch date has been set for 8 October 2025 on PS5.
The event gave us a sneak peek into the world of the upcoming action-RPG, Monster Hunter Wilds Set to be released on PS5 in 2025, the trailer showcased a rich, living world teeming with fearsome monsters. Capcom introduced some of the monsters and characters, along with detailed information on the hunter’s new mount.
Sony announced the opening of its Closed Beta Test on PS5 in July 2024 for Marvel Rivals. This much-awaited release has stirred up excitement in the Marvel-verse, as fans are excited to see Venom and Adam Warlock in action in the new game.
Path of Exile 2 is set to bring its action-packed free-to-play RPG to the PlayStation 5. Marking a highlight in the State of Play 2024, the game will also introduce a new feature – couch co-op! Play with friends all together on one device and one account. Fans are eagerly awaiting the chance to join the early access set for later in the year.
Entering the PlayStation universe again, Astro Bot is ready for an epic space adventure featuring six galaxies and over 80 levels. Pre-orders for the PS5 game will begin on 7 June 2024, with the launch slated for 6 September 2024.
Rounding up the announcements was Where Winds Meet, an upcoming open-world martial arts action-adventure RPG which is soon coming to the PS5. Likewise, Infinity Nikki, another open-world adventure game will be coming to PS5 with beta testing starting this autumn. Another game coming to PS5 is Dynasty Warriors: Origins, with the date set for 2025. Gamers also found out the release date of Ballad of Antara, a free-to-play fantasy action RPG, set to be released on PS5 in 2025.
Also, Skydance’s Behemoth promises a first-person action-adventure VR experience on PS VR2, launching in the autumn of 2024. Alien: Rogue Incursion, another title for PS VR2, is set for release in December 2024 and shared a first look at its gameplay at the event.
