Disney+ prices 2024
Disney+ has increased its prices in the UK for the second time in three years as of November 2023. The previous standard subscription with a resolution of Full HD (1080p), two simultaneous streams and download options on up to ten end devices previously cost £7.99 per month. With the price increase, the price has been raised to £10.99 per month. This corresponds to an increase of almost 40 %.
Disney+ has also introduced a new subscription model with advertising. The Standard subscription with adverts costs £4.99 per month and offers the same conditions as the regular Disney Plus Standard subscription, but no downloads are included and you have to put up with ad breaks.
There is also the Disney+ Premium subscription, which was previously the standard subscription for many Disney Plus users. With a resolution of 4K Ultra HD (2160p), HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. The subscription has been increased from £7.99 to £10.99 per month.
Savings can be made in particular with the Disney Plus annual subscriptions. For the two subscription models without adverts, the streaming service offers a cheaper Disney Plus annual subscription price, which is significantly cheaper than paying monthly over a year. This means you save over 16% with an annual subscription compared to paying monthly.
Existing customers were not initially affected by the price increase. They were able to continue their existing subscription at the old price until 31 December 2023. From 1 January 2024, however, existing customers also have to pay the new subscription price.

Disney Plus family subscription & student plan
Disney+ currently offers neither a family subscription nor a discounted student rate.
However, when choosing the Disney+ Premium subscription (£10.99 per month), families have the option of streaming on four devices simultaneously and even downloading films and series on up to ten devices. This is often enough for a family.
The alternative to a Disney+ student subscription is the affordable Disney Plus Standard subscription with adverts. For £4.99 per month, this subscription plan is also affordable for students with a low income and the Disney Plus costs are kept within limits. This plan also allows you to stream on up to two devices, so you don’t necessarily have to use the plan alone.
Why is Disney Plus increasing its subscription prices?
When Disney Plus started streaming in the UK, it was still significantly cheaper than its main competitor Netflix. However, the prices are becoming more and more similar. The streaming provider Disney Plus not only wants to be recognised for its children’s films and series, but also as a fully-fledged streaming service that competes with the leading provider Netflix.
Accordingly, Disney+ has also followed suit and, like its competitors Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, has increased its prices. The providers argue that price increases are necessary to cover the cost of producing new content.
Disney Plus free trial
In the past, it was possible for new users to test Disney Plus for free. This meant you could take out a seven-day trial and watch Disney Plus for free during this period. However, the streaming service does not currently offer a free trial subscription. Nevertheless, you have the option of cancelling your Disney Plus subscription at any time with one month’s notice. If you decide that Disney+ is no longer for you or you have already watched all the interesting content, you can cancel the subscription at any time in your customer account.
