No chocolate advent calendar this year? No problem. The ultimate season of free games is upon us, and this is a freebie you can’t miss! The Epic Games Store is bringing back their advent calendar of giveaways and the countdown to a choc-full library is upon us. The Epic Games Advent Calendar has been a highlight for PC gamers the last few years. Previous years have seen titles like Vampyr, Fallout, Wolfenstein: The New Order, and Tomb Raider appearing in the promotion.

What is the Epic Games Advent Calendar?
It’s a period of time when the Epic Games Store gives away one free game every single day. It lasts for a good portion of their Christmas Sale period, and the games themselves are a complete mystery until they’re made available! Much like the surprise of not knowing what’s behind the door of your advent calendar.
When does the Epic Games Advent Calendar start?
The first giveaway is happening on Wednesday 19th of December, one week after the start of the Epic Games Christmas sale. The first mystery game is all wrapped up, so check the store for the countdown until kick off.
UPDATE: Our first wrapped Free Game has been revealed, and will be free until 19th December, Destiny 2: Legacy Collection (2023). After this date the games will be the daily freebies coming in thick and fast!
How many games will Epic give away this Christmas?
We are expecting the advent calendar to last from 19th December until 10th of January. This will give us 17 free games. We gamers are always expecting a sequel will surpass its predecessor though, so this year’s sale could give us more than that. Perhaps they’ll run the advent calendar for longer? Or some days could have multiple free games in the mystery box!
What games might be included in the Epic Games Advent Calendar?
The Epic Games Store is known for repeating its free games, with many repeats over the years. I’d bet good money that 3 or 4 of the free games this Christmas will have had a free week before. We could even see F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch achieve its hattrick!
Often the games we see on Epic are free because that franchise has had a huge sale on other channels, or because it has had a sequel release. On this basis, and Epic’s habit of repeating games, I suspect we could see ARK: Survival Evolved again, something Warhammer 40,000, or something from the Star Wars universe.
