The False Economy podcast tackles everything from loyalty cards to financial scandals, leaving you laughing and financially empowered.
Are you tired of scratching your head over complicated consumer news? Fed up with feeling like you’re always one step behind when it comes to understanding the ups and downs of the cost of living crisis?
Good news! The False Economy Podcast is here to cut through the jargon and tell you all you need to know to get the most from your money.
What is the False Economy podcast?
Let’s face it: money can be a daunting subject. But the podcast breaks things down into bite-sized, digestible pieces — keeping what you need to know, and throwing out what you don’t. All in plain English from down to earth experts who have learned from experience. From dissecting the latest financial scandals to demystifying loyalty card benefits.
But what sets the False Economy Podcast apart from the rest? It’s not just about regurgitating dry facts and figures. Instead, it brings things to life with humour, wit, and a healthy dose of skepticism.
You’ll find yourself laughing out loud one moment and pondering the complexities of supply and demand the next. But above all, you’ll pick up tricks to get the best from your money — from dismantling offers that look too good to be true, to testing when you need to spend a little more to get the most.
Who hosts the False Economy podcast?
Vix Leyton
Welsh Vix is a consumer money expert as well as a stand up comedian and podcaster.
Discovered by comedian Mark Watson on Twitter in 2019, she’s now a professional stand up as well as host of the smash hit panel podcast ‘The Comedy Arcade’.
An award winning commentator winning trophies at the Headlinemoney awards in 2015 and 2017, Standard Issue podcast consumer champion, and a regular media commentator on all matters household money. She is a regular on BBC Radio 4, Talk Radio and LBC, and even popped up on Steph’s Packed Lunch. She is also an incurable impulse buyer, and frequently finds it difficult to apply her solid advice to her own life.
Paul Watson
You might recognise Paul’s face and voice, but possibly not for the reason you think; Paul is the brother of world famous stand up Mark Watson.
For the purposes of the show, he is the ‘Lidl Middle Aisle’ money saving alternative, but behind the scenes he is hugely accomplished in his own right — from being the world’s youngest International football manager, to author and sports writer who has lived all over the world.
He’s also a father of two who lives in Stroud who can barely remember what he last bought, so offers a very different perspective to Little Miss Spend-a-lot, leading to some really spirited debate; with each other as much as the guests.
