Amazon is rolling out new interactive ad formats to shop while you stream. Anticipate 'shoppable carousels' in your ad breaks, brand-based trivia quizzes during shows, and 'pause ads' when you hit the pause button. Is this helpful or just intrusive?
Prime Video is about to bombard viewers with new ad formats, forcing its ad-free experience for an extra £2.99. Is is time to find an alternative?
Remember when Prime Video was ad-free? Sadly, those days are a distant memory. Even though it’s been just a few months since Amazon introduced ads, its not stopping there. Brace yourself for a barrage of new ad formats designed to tempt you to shop while you stream your favourite shows.
Get ready for “shoppable carousels” – essentially ads within ads – popping up during breaks. These “enticing product displays” will even pause automatically if you get curious, giving you ample opportunity to explore and (potentially) buy the items whilst you are binging Fallout.
Trivia quizzes about brands may appear during shows, offering rewards like Amazon shopping credits. And if you like to pause your shows a lot, be prepared for “pause ads” – translucent overlays showcasing products you can add directly to your cart with a click. All very convenient, but not exactly what you signed up for with a Prime subscription, am I right?
The escape hatch? A cool £2.99 on top of your existing £8.99 Prime membership. Seems a bit cheeky, doesn’t it? While Amazon boasts a successful ad-supported tier with millions of viewers, many Prime users clearly crave an ad-free experience.
The future of streaming seems awash in ads, and Prime Video is at the forefront. So it might be time to adjust your expectations, or consider that extra monthly fee — the choice (and the ads) are yours.
