Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws is set to be a major release for fans of the space opera. So here’s a rundown of the key details ahead of its launch on 30 August, 2024.

To begin, Star Wars Outlaws marks a significant first for the gaming franchise — namely it is the first to exist in a fully open-world experience. Yes, we had the Star Wars Jedi series, which felt more open than previous games, but still made you follow pathways and a strict storyline.

In Outlaws, players take on the role of Kay Vess, a scoundrel navigating the galaxy’s criminal underbelly (which sounds very similar to Han Solo’s pre-rebellion days). So you can expect exploration on a grand scale more akin to the recent Assassin’s Creed games, action-packed combat, and thrilling heists across the galaxy.

Catering to a wide audience, as all Ubisoft games do, it is releasing on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This ensures fans across multiple platforms can join the adventure.

Gear up for launch

Pre-orders are now open at various retailers, including the Ubisoft Store starting at £59.99, Xbox from £69.99 and PlayStation Store from £69.99. Pre-ordering typically secures the Kessel Runner Bonus Pack, granting cosmetic upgrades for your spaceship and speeder.

Interestingly, GAME offers a Special Edition of Star Wars Outlaws with exclusive cosmetic content — the Sabaac Shark character pack — for £64.99. This version is only available through GAME stores and their online store.

The cheapest version on PS5 comes with an exclusive free Steelbook case from The Game Collection, for £56.95.

Any reviews?

With the release date still a couple of months away (79 days to be exact), there aren’t any official reviews available yet. However, numerous gameplay trailers and previews can be found online, offering a glimpse into the world and mechanics of Star Wars Outlaws.

But the general consensus online is to be “cautiously optimistic”, as people feel like they may have been lured in by Ubisoft before, only to be disappointed.
