What is the Apple Vision Pro?
Apple Vision Pro is a mixed reality headset first announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2023. Unlike virtual reality headsets, which create a completely digital environment, the Apple Vision Pro blends digital elements with the real world.
Apple Vision Pro promises a spatial computing experience that revolutionises the way we work, redefines collaboration and entertainment. This is made possible by visionOS, an innovative operating system that offers users navigation with their eyes, hands and voice.
The device has a hardware design consisting of:
- Micro-OLED displays
- Advanced 3D audio
- Eye tracking system
- Dual-chip design
In addition to technical innovations, Apple also relies on its usual values, including accessibility features, educational apps, and a high level of security and privacy.
Apple also claims that the virtual headset was made with environmental protection in mind, using recycled materials, energy-efficient standards, and carbon-neutral manufacturing processes.
What can the Apple Vision Pro do?
The Apple Vision Pro mixes the virtual with reality. Find out what else the glasses can do:
- Mixed reality: Instead of completely immersing yourself in a virtual world, digital objects are integrated into your real environment.
- 3D spatial computer: Apple calls the Vision Pro a “spatial computer” that merges digital media with the real world.
- Control: Control is via gestures, eye movements and voice recognition.
- 3D operating system: The Vision Pro uses its own operating system called visionOS, which is optimised for mixed reality use. Apps appear as floating windows in your environment.
- 3D Camera: Apple’s first 3D camera lets you capture photos and videos with depth information to relive memories.
- Over 2000 apps: In the Apple Store you will find apps generated specifically for the Apple Vision Pro. These include business and productivity apps such as Zoom or Microsoft 365.
- Personal cinema experience: Streaming services such as Apple TV+, Prime Video, Disney+ and many more can also be used with the Apple headset.
- Sporting events: With apps from major sports brands, you’ll always feel like you’re sitting in the front row at the event and have all the results at a glance.
- Gaming: Discover thousands of games, including titles on Apple Arcade. Immerse yourself in the game and use your eyes and hands instead of a controller.
- Unlimited Canvases: Paint, draw or sketch with only your hands on your virtual canvas.
- Storytelling experiences: In the Apple TV app you will find films and series where you are right in the middle of the action and take part in the story.
Apple is also constantly developing new apps and content for the Apple Vision Pro. The headset is future-oriented and you can look forward to constantly growing content. You can find more detailed information about the Apple Vision Pro in the Apple Newsroom.
