Stay ahead of the curve with the latest rumours about the highly anticipated Google Pixel 9, expected to launch in 2024.
The Google Pixel 9, expected to launch in autumn 2024, is rumoured to feature a new design, enhanced camera and an upgraded Google Tensor chip.
The Google Pixel 9 is due for release in a few months time and rumours are intensifying about its design, features and price.
According to leaks, the Pixel 9 could sport a new design, similar to that of the iPhone 15. There’s also talk of a more powerful processor and a better camera.
We can imagine that its price will remain similar to that of the Pixel 8, but a higher-end version could prove more expensive.
So, what can we expect from the Pixel 9? We’ve rounded up the most reliable rumours so you don’t have to. So without further ado, let’s dive into the rumours surrounding Google’s next smartphone.
No official release date has yet been announced for the Pixel 9. However, if Google’s usual timetable is anything to go by, there’s every reason to believe that it could be presented at the end of 2024.
This estimate is based on the release dates of previous Google Pixel smartphones. The Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones were launched on 12 October 2023 at a Google conference. The Google Pixel 7 was unveiled on 18 October 2022.
If Google’s schedule is anything to go by, then it seems highly likely that the Google Pixel 9s will be released in October 2024.
TechRadar goes further and claims that the Pixel 9 could be unveiled at a special event around mid-October 2024. Indeed, this window would allow Google to launch the product before the Christmas period, maximising sales.
Google is reportedly moving away from its classic offering to offer 3 separate Pixel 9 smartphones, reports Android Police. The following models are expected: the Pixel 9, the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro XL.
The Pixel 9 would be the standard model, while the Pro models would offer high-end features and more powerful specifications.
According to Andoid Police, the dimensions of the Pixel 9 are as follows:
Android Police goes on to reckon that the Pixel 9 should pack a double rear photo sensor, without a telephoto lens. 91mobiles mentions an optimised button layout with the power button and volume keys placed strategically on the right-hand side.
The Pro version would carry on the aesthetic codes of the Pixel 9 while offering more advanced features, including a telephoto lens and potentially a better screen. Finally, the ultimate Pixel 9 would feature a triple rear photo sensor and premium materials.
If the information revealed by AndroidPolice is confirmed, the Pixel 9 series is expected to adopt a more modern design overall. In particular, there’s talk of flat edges and rounded corners, inspired by Apple’s iPhone.
Android Authority has reportedly unearthed the colours in which the Pixel 9 range will be marketed. However, it is said that these are code names and that Google will probably use different names later on. It’s also possible that some of these colours won’t be available at launch.
Here are the colours listed by Android Authority:
Google Pixel 9 Colours:
Google Pixel 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL Colours:
The Pixel 8 range includes the ‘Obsidian’, ‘Porcelain’, ‘Hazel’ and ‘Rose’ colours. However, the ‘Jade’ and ‘Peony’ colours do not appear in the current ranges. To be continued.
According to Android Police, all Google Pixel 9 models are expected to feature OLED displays, offering vivid colours and deep blacks. In addition, all displays are expected to support a 120Hz refresh rate.
9to5Google reports that the Pixel 9 would have a slightly smaller screen than the Pixel 9 Pro, at around 6.03 inches compared to 6.2 inches for the Google Pixel 9 Pro. On the other hand, the overall dimensions of the smartphones are said to be similar. The size differences could therefore come mainly from wider screen margins.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL is said to have the largest screen diagonal, at 6.5 inches or 6.7 inches depending on sources.
In summary, the screen specifications for the Google Pixel 9 range would be as follows according to Android Police:
Also according to Android Police, the Pixel 9 series would debut the Google Tensor G4 processor, designed to deliver improved artificial intelligence performance. This would result in faster and smarter features, such as improved photo and video taking, more responsive voice assistance and more immersive gaming experiences.
TechRadar reports that all 3 smartphones would start with 128GB of storage. The Pixel 9 would reportedly pack 12GB of RAM (up from 8GB in the Pixel 8) and the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL would go up to 16GB of RAM (up from 12GB in the Pixel 8 Pro).
Pixel smartphones are known for their excellent cameras, and the Pixel 9 should continue this tradition.
Rumours suggest that the Pixel 9 Pro could feature a triple lens camera system, comprising a 50 megapixel main sensor, a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide angle lens.
Unlike the Pixel 9 Pro, which will offer 3 cameras, the Pixel 9 could make do with a dual-lens camera system, with a 50-megapixel main sensor and an ultra-wide-angle lens.
Elsewhere, Android Police reports that the Pixel 9’s main camera is said to be a ISOCELL GNV from Samsung.
The price of the Pixel 9 has not been officially announced, and it’s too early for any leaks.
We can imagine that Google will offer a similar price range to the Pixel 8. Another strategy could be to take advantage of the launch of the 3 smartphones to increase the prices of the new range. The mystery remains for the moment.
As a reminder, here are Google’s RRP prices for the Pixel 8 released in October 2023:
No official information has yet been released by Google, but the rumours surrounding the Pixel 9 are flying thick and fast. Due for release in autumn 2024, this new smartphone is expected to feature a revamped design, a larger rear camera module and a new Tensor G4 processor.
While we wait for the official announcement, please be patient!
