When do the Christmas sales start in 2023?

Traditionally, Christmas shopping would start in mid-December, but now Christmas sales kick-off after Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving in the US. This year, Black Friday was on 24 November, so expect Christmas sale events to start after that!

Black Friday is a huge sale that stretches into Cyber Monday on 27 November. Following this, there are lots of sales on all things festive, from Christmas trees and decorations to toys and games ready to send to Santa!

However, some retailers may begin their sales even earlier, and in fact, we are already seeing some big Black Friday discounts in stores. Therefore, you can expect to find spectacular sales on all things Christmas related between November and December.

Last year’s best Christmas shopping deals

Last year saw some eye-catching deals. Notably, Christmas tree sales — John Lewis, Homebase and Dunelm offered high-quality trees at low prices. Argos had a big clearance a few days before Christmas which did really well on hotukdeals.

M&S offered great prices on Christmas jumpers, while they also had some excellent discounts on Christmas gifts such as advent calendars from Lego and lots of chocolate.

For Christmas decorations, lights, and even Christmas cards, Asda and Argos emerged as the top contenders. For beauty gift sets, check out Boots and Amazon, and of course, don’t miss out on Next’s massive Boxing Day sales — get there very early to be able to get the best bargains!

Even the big players got involved with PlayStation offering 12 months of PlayStation Plus Essential for £24.99!

What to expect this year?

This year, expect a wide variety of sales, both online and in-store. As mentioned before, you’ll want to look out for Christmas sales across numerous retailers, including:

  • Amazon
  • Asda
  • Argos
  • Dunelm
  • Homebase
  • John Lewis
  • Marks & Spencer
  • Next
  • Boots
  • Debenhams
  • Zara

Among the merchandise to look out for are the Christmas lights, gift sets, wrapping paper, and of course, toys.

Many UK retailers offer fantastic Boxing Day clearance sales as well, so the savings continue beyond Christmas and into the new year.

Look out for Asda’s Christmas sales and Argos’s Christmas sales for decorations, lights, cards and gifts this festive season. One to look out for is discounted Christmas trees at Argos, one of the biggest deals on hotukdeals last year.

Dunelm and M&S are preparing to launch their Christmas sales with plenty of discounted home items. And when it comes to clothing, keep an eye out for the Zara Christmas sale and Next’s Boxing Day sale, set to remodel your wardrobe at discounted rates.

Christmas sales FAQs

When do Christmas sales start in the UK?

In the UK, Christmas sales traditionally start on Boxing Day, which is the day after Christmas. However, in recent years, many retailers such as Amazon, Asda, and Argos have begun their sales as early as the last week of November, coinciding with Black Friday.

What day do Christmas decorations go on sale?

Christmas decorations typically start to go on sale in the build-up to the festive season, sometimes as early as November or even October. However, if you’re looking for significant discounts, they usually occur after Christmas during clearance sales, which often start on Boxing Day. You will then be set up for the following Christmas!

Do products go on sale after Christmas?

Yes, many retailers offer Boxing Day sales. These are primarily clearance sales, often including Christmas decorations, beauty gift sets, clothing, and toys. This can be a good time to buy items for next year at a significantly reduced price.

Following that, you have the January Sales, which is another major time to pick up a bargain.

Do sales slow down after Christmas?

In general, there can be a slowdown in sales after the Christmas season, mainly because consumers have already made their significant purchases. However, many savvy shoppers take advantage of the Boxing Day sales for discounted products.

While there might be a slowdown compared to the festive season, retailers will still do brisk business, especially in the first few days after Christmas and into January.

For all the best offers over the Christmas period, don’t forget to check on hotukdeals. It gets updated daily with fantastic offers from across the UK.
