Google has released the Pixel 8a today (7 May) — featuring a dynamic display, dual rear camera system, Google Tensor G3 processor, and 24-hour battery life — how can you get yours?

Tech enthusiasts have a reason to celebrate today, as Google has released its latest budget-conscious smartphone, the Pixel 8a. It is currently on pre-order priced at £499, but gets a discount on the Pixel Buds A-Series headphones. Deliveries will begin on Wednesday 15 May, after the Google I/O event.

The Google Pixel 8a stands out with its impressive 6.1-inch display, capable of rendering a dynamic refresh rate ranging from 60 Hz to an ultra smooth 120 Hz. The screen promises unmatched vividness with up to 1,400 nits for HDR content and peak brightness hitting 2,000 nits.

Photography buffs will be delighted with the Pixel 8a’s dual rear camera system — 64-megapixel main camera, and 13-megapixel ultrawide camera, and 13-megapixel front camera. Complete with a wide and ultrawide lens, the smartphone will offer Super Res Zoom up to 8x, ensuring captivating, high-resolution shots.

Camera AI features list

  • The Pixel Camera consistently captures high-quality photos and videos with the help of Google AI.
  • Google AI assists in curating perfect group photos and rectifying blurry images.
  • The Pixel’s Best Take feature combines similar photos to create one ideal image where everyone looks their best.
  • Audio Magic Eraser, powered by Google AI, reduces intrusive noises and accentuates desired sounds.
  • The Photo Unblur feature in Google Photos rejuvenates old and new blurry images by eliminating blur and visual noise.
  • The Pixel Camera includes the Super Res Zoom, eliminating the need for an additional telephoto lens.

What else?

At the heart, Google has equipped the Pixel 8a with the in-house built Google Tensor G3 processor, accompanied by 8GB of RAM. This combination will ensure snappy performance, boosting app launches and multitasking.

The Pixel 8a also impresses with its long-lasting battery. Its 4,492 mAh battery promises to deliver over 24-hours of use on a single charge. What’s more, it supports wireless charging, allowing for quick and convenient power-ups.

The Google Pixel 8a does not compromise in terms of durability either. With an IP67 rating, it’s resistant to water and dust.

Users will also appreciate the Pixel 8a’s dedication to maintaining a robust and secure system with the provision of seven years of OS, security, and Feature Drop updates. With its launch around the corner, the Google Pixel 8a promises budget-friendly version of the Pixel 8.
