WhatsApp has confirmed a substantial revamp to its massively popular chat app, arriving soon on both Android and iPhone devices. The update involves a visual overhaul, enhanced features, and an (exciting) new shade for the iconic green colour associated with the app.
The new design aims to declutter the screen, offering users a fresh, modern feel without compromising the core functionality. WhatsApp’s familiar bold green top-block is replaced by a minimalistic, predominantly white interface.

“In pursuit of simplicity, scalability, and future-proofing, we want WhatsApp to feel fresh, fun, and intuitive,” stated WhatsApp.
Users will also notice the brighter, more florescent shade of green accompanying the new design. The company revealed that over 35 different colour iterations were considered before settling on this new shade. Good to know that Dark mode is also getting an even darker refurbish: “With increased contrast and deeper tones, we aim to reduce eye strain in low-light settings,” added WhatsApp.
The chat app features updated icons, adorned in a rounded, outlined style. Alongside the new iconography, refreshed illustrations, and animations introduced, provide a “more playful aesthetic”.
The original default background is revamped, intended to reflect a broader representation of people and objects. With a focus on simple navigability, the menu bar on Android devices is relocated to the screen-bottom, aligning it with the iPhone interface.

The process of sending media on iOS has been simplified with an expandable tray replacing the full-screen menu. Additionally, improved filters enable easier conversation access without scrolling through the entire inbox. Users can now select unread and group filters effortlessly to catch up on messages or group chats.
This biggest update in years signifies WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience across the globe.
