Launched in China in December, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro are the latest flagship smartphones from one of China’s biggest electronics brands.
Xiaomi 13 Series Global Launch is expected at the end of January
According to top fan site ‘Xiaomiui’, the latest update from Xiaomi’s OS is coming and with it the global release of the Xiaomi 13 smartphone.
This is exciting news for fans of the Chinese company, as its is normally a few months between the Chinese and global releases of products.
The update of the OS brings a new “super icons feature, new sets of widgets, improved performance and battery life, and enhanced security measures.”
Chinese megacorp Xiaomi makes everything, from electric toothbrushes to nail clippers. It has a hand in many other smartphone companies too, like Redmi and POCO, not to mention its Internet of Things empire.
Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro have arrived on the Chinese market. The good news is they should be in the UK by early 2023.
The Xiaomi 13 comes with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen. 2 chipset, which should make it fairly speedy. Plus, you’ll find brand-new but slightly familiar design (iPhone 14 anyone?).
The cameras are much improved, including a main 50MP, f/1.8 camera with OIS. This is joined by a 10MP 3X telephoto camera and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Plus, there is a rather fancy 32MP selfie camera on the front. Leica’s guiding hand has helped with all the lenses.
The new 13 comes with a 6.36in OLED display, with a 1080 x 2400 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and support for a range of HDR standards.
Powered by a large 4500 mAh battery. This comes with a 67W cable for wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Should you need such a thing.
And that’s just the Xiaomi 13.
The Pro version is larger than the 13, with a wraparound 6.73in display, which uses LTPO tech for a dynamic variable refresh rate (though still up to 120Hz) and has a higher 1440 x 3200 pixel resolution. It also comes with a ceramic back rather than glass seen on the 13.
The battery is a bit bigger at 4820 mAh. It uses Xiaomi’s Surge G1 chip to deliver 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
What sets the Pro apart is its camera system. While the main lens is still 50Mp, it uses the much larger 1in Sony IMX989 sensor, which was used in the Xiaomi 12T Pro.
The telephoto lens is also a 50Mp sensor, with a 3x zoom level. It’s also capable of focusing on objects just 10cm away, due to its ‘floating’ lens structure. This could make it more versatile than other telephotos out there.
The ultra-wide camera is also a 50Mp shooter, with an f/2.2 aperture and autofocus. Finally, the 32Mp selfie camera is the same as on the 13.
